I my previous post, I provided some tips for positive self-talk. I now intend to share some more details or “how tos” to start replacing negatives with positives.
Let’s face it negative thoughts happen. It is hard to be positive ALL the time. Nevertheless, you can replace negative thoughts with the positive ones in any situation. There is always an alternative way to see a situation, and you have an opportunity to choose to find something positive about it.
For example, if you have a goal to achieve a healthy weight, instead of telling yourself not to bother because you have previously gained the weight lost back , change the talk to “I am making healthier choices every day” or “I am successful at maintaining a healthy weight for me”.
When negative thoughts creep in, as they will, tell yourself that you are proud of yourself because you are making efforts daily to improve and change. Saying messages out loud to yourself such as: “job well done” when you get your workouts done or “you made a good choice” when you skipped a second helping give yourself a mental pat on the back. They allow you to feel good about what you are doing for yourself. Focusing on what you are doing to change your life or achieve your goals will shift your self-talk. And move your toward your success through positive thinking. Just know that this does take practice.
So, when negative thoughts creep into your mind, “STOP” them and flip them to a positive. And this will help build your confidence and reduce stress. Stop holding yourself back from achieving all that you can.
Be positive to improve your performance in anything you do.
