Set yourself up for success with the right mindset.
Have you ever utilized affirmations to boost positive thoughts and goal achievement? Affirmations can be an enormously powerful tool for change and life in general.
An affirmation is a positive statement that can help you overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. Affirmations, when repeated often and stated with belief, can assist you in making positive changes.
Affirmations are not wishful thinking. They are not and should not be unrealistic thinking. What they should be is an optimistic look at the change or future that is believable and achievable. These positive mental repetitions can support reprograming our thinking so that over time we start to think and act differently.
Several years ago, I did a Couch to 5K by using the affirmation “I am a runner”. I was able to complete my commitment and the 5K, running the whole 3.1 miles after training for 11 weeks. I had tried running before and was never able to stick with it because of negative thinking. By adopting the affirmation “I am a runner” I was able to achieve my goal.
Affirmations can help in a variety of circumstance because they can build confidence and help you focus on the possibilities/future. Examples of times when you might use affirmations include:
- Adopting a new/healthy habit.
- Raising your confidence before presentations or meetings.
- Finishing projects you have started or achieving goals you have set.
So, think of one of the areas in your life where you would like to make a change and I will share some ideas next week for creating affirmations.
