I had the pleasure and honor of presenting a breakout session at the Michigan Dietetic Association Annual Conference this past week. The presentation was about my journey as a registered dietitian into the coaching profession. While my focus was on sharing information about the coaching process my hope is that I also opened the door to some possibilities for my audience.

There were three messages from the program that I would like to share with you:

1. Coaching isn’t therapy, mentoring, training, athletic development or consulting. Coaching supports personal and professional growth and development based on individual-initiated change in pursuit of specific actionable outcomes. Coaching assumes that a client is capable of generating their own solutions with the coach supplying supportive, discovery-based approaches. Coaching is distinct from other service professions because it focuses on an individual’s life as it relates to goal setting, outcome creation and personal change management.
2. Coaching focuses on where a client is now and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be in the future. A coach recognizes that the results are a matter of the individual’s intentions, choices and actions supported by the coaching process.
3. Coaching helps the client stop thinking in terms of limitations and encourages them to think in terms of possibilities.

I encourage you to think that anything is possible. Don’t let yourself be limited because of others’ limited imagination. And NEVER because of your own limited thinking. Because if you think you can or can’t you are right.

A free 30-minute sample session is available to see if coaching is right for you. Contact me if you are interested in learning more.
