Be Thankful

As I shift into being, I have realized that gratitude is an important anchor for me in the daily practice of being present, mindful and in the moment. To just be.

Gratitude Changes Everything

We just celebrated the Thanksgiving Holiday.  The celebration of Thanksgiving Day is an annual national holiday and a tradition that celebrates the harvest and other blessing of the past year.

What if we used that attitude of gratitude for more than a day? What if we employed it daily? What amazing things could happen in our lives if we were grateful for what we had and just took a minute out of everyday to acknowledge what we do have?

As we approach the end of 2021, which is five weeks away, I am grateful for so much. Taking a minute every day to acknowledge those things is important to me and has changed a lot in my life.

What are you grateful for? Here’s an idea…. start a gratitude journal today if you don’t already have one.

Mission Accomplished – Gratitude Challenge Completed

Yesterday was the final day of my 21-day Gratitude Challenge that started on August 7. I wanted to share how this challenge went for me. In a word…GREAT! By doing this for a shorter time, I was able to complete it every day since it felt very doable.

As always, doing this practice provides many benefits to me. And recently, scientifically validated benefits of gratitude have been published. So, you don’t just have to take it from me.

Through the work of researchers like Robert Emmons and Martin Seligman, we have learned that the virtue of gratitude is more than just saying, “thank you.”

Numerous studies are demonstrating how gratitude journaling can increase one’s happiness. Others show that inflammation in one’s body can decrease through the practice and attitude of gratitude. Each study offers insights into how a person can improve their overall health and well-being. [Read more…]

Grateful for Life – The Good and the Bad

When we think about being grateful, if you are like me, your thoughts jump immediately to all that is positive or exciting in life.  The word “gratitude” evokes thoughts of all that is good in our life from belongings, experiences, and to relationships.

But what about the bad? What about learning to be grateful for everything in life…even the things that are less than ideal?

Gratitude shouldn’t just be about reflecting on the good in our life. It is just as important to be grateful for the negatives in our life as well. The negatives in life also help shape who we are.

While we can’t always control what happens in life, we have the power of controlling or reaction to them or our perception about them. We can choose to be either grateful for the experience, or we can be thankful that our life is no longer as negative as it used to be. [Read more…]
