Stick to Your Goals

by Michaeline on May 5, 2012

Sometimes it’s hard to keep on track with your goals.

Here are tips to help make goals stick:

  • When you are working on a new healthy habit create prompts for goal implementation. For example if you want to exercise first thing in the morning lay out your exercise clothes the night before right next to your bed so you can put them on as soon as you get up. Or if flossing your teeth daily is your goal pull out the floss when you pull out your toothbrush.
  • While having SMART goals is important to success so is creating goals in the present tense to help you visualize the goal as already done. For example I wear a size eight versus I will lose 20 pounds or I am cigarette free versus I will stop smoking.
  • Set up rewards to build some pleasure into the actual activity. For example tape your favorite TV show and watch it while exercising so you can create a habit that sticks.

Creating prompts, setting up rewards and establishing goals in the present tense will aid with goal implementation and assist in creating healthy habits that stick. Give one of these tips a try…you can make your goals a reality.

Out with the Old in with the New

by Michaeline on January 1, 2011

The New Year is always a time for reflection and goal setting. Are you finding yourself stuck in the same place as last year? Are you living with the same tolerations year after year?

This week sit down with a blank sheet of paper and list your longings. Not the things you should do or need to do or even want to do. What are you longing to do?

Sit in a quiet place. Maybe play some classical music. Or spend time walking in nature beforehand. Now write without editing. Once you have all your longings listed, eliminate those that are totally unrealistic. Then pick one longing that is calling to you right now.

List several small steps you can take this week, this month, this year to make your longing a reality.

The goal is to have this exercise re-energize you and to help you live a more authentic life.

Happy New Year! Happy New You!

Keep It Simple

August 9, 2008

I keep addressing the topic, because I know that “walking the talk” is tough…especially when we make everything else a priority over ourselves. That is why I love the book “Simple Steps – 10 Weeks to Getting Control of Your Life” (New American [...]
