Be the Word

January 8, 2022 by Michaeline

A New Year, a new word. This year’s focus word is “be.”

Every year instead of selecting a New Year’s resolution, I select a focus word for the year.

For me, aligning to a word provides direction all year long versus focusing on a goal that you meet (or not) and then move beyond.

I usually start with the definition of the word, but I found that difficult this year. So, instead I am sharing a quote from mindful.org that “defines” what “be” or “being” means to me:

‘In being mode, the mind has “nothing to do, nowhere to go” and can focus fully on moment-by-moment experience, allowing us to be fully present and aware of whatever is here, right now.’

My goal for this year, this new chapter in my life, is to be present in the moment. I selected this focus word because I have been “doing” all my adult life. Lists, obligations, deadlines, and people pleasing have kept me doing. Doing to the point where my well has run dry. This year, I am looking at self-care and with that “allowing” myself to be in the moment versus in the space of what has happened or what will happen.

So this year I intend to start being instead of doing by:

  • Deciding what is most important to me.
  • Choosing to be happy in each moment.
  • Honoring my strengths.
  • Residing in the present moment with an open heart.
  • Taking inspired action.

Consider joining me in selecting a word for 2022. What will it be? Or will you join me in “being?”

The Word 2020: Abundance

January 4, 2020 by Michaeline

This year my word came to me relatively easy. Some years it is like that while other years it is more of a journey to get to my selected word. 2020 will be all about the Word abundance. To get started, as always, I looked up the definition at thefreedictionary.com.

a·bun·dance
noun
1. a. A great or plentiful amount: an abundance of rain.
b. The condition of being in rich supply: bananas growing in abundance.
2. a. Degree of plentifulness: “Species of low abundance are ignored in the calculation of predominance” (William M. Lewis).
b. Chemistry The amount of an isotope of an element that exists in nature, usually expressed as a percentage of the total amount of all isotopes of the element.
3. Affluence; prosperity: living in abundance.

As I selected the word, my intention was focusing on the condition of being in rich supply. This could mean opportunities for myself inclusive of all others, enough time to do the things I want to do, and/or resources.

My goal is to remind myself that I need to dispel narrow thinking and restrictive self-talk while embracing all that is available to me especially health, love and joy.

I am looking forward to what 2020 will bring. I am excited for this next chapter.

May 2020 be a year of abundance for you as well.

Achieving Your Goals in 2019

January 19, 2019 by Michaeline

So how can you achieve your goals (resolutions) in 2019?

In doing research on this topic, I came across an article that provides some great suggestions for realizing the goals you set this year.

What this article is really telling us is that we need to pay attention to our goals on a regular basis by making them a priority in our daily plans and choices we make.

Additionally, I would suggest the following tips for achieving your goals:

• Create and use affirmations
• Practice meditation
• Journal
• Create a vision board
• Review your goals on a regular basis

Two Weeks In….

January 12, 2019 by Michaeline

We are just about two weeks in to the New Year.

How are you doing with your resolution(s)?

When we set goals (resolutions), we often think that that achieving them, especially health goals that involve food choices, is a matter of willpower which turns into “won’t power”.

Willpower or won’t power doesn’t work in the long run. What works in the long run is making choices daily that moves you toward your goal. And then continuing to make those choices to maintain that healthy lifestyle.

A life coach can help support you in achieving your goals. Contact me to arrange for a free 30-minute introductory session. Make the choice to succeed with your resolution and support yourself with life coaching.

Thoughts on Creating Resolutions

January 5, 2019 by Michaeline

Stuck is a choice.
No decision is a decision.
A goal without a plan is just a dream.

As we begin a new year, I was pondering the above in the context of making resolutions.

I think that the start of a new year is a good time, before making resolutions, to look at your mission, vision and values. This can help add focus to your goal (resolution) setting. I would propose that we sometimes set our goals for others or set them based on what we think would we should do without regard to our mission and values. So, I ask what would be possible if we aligned our goals (resolutions) to with mission, vision and values?

Then I would suggest that you need to decide to start by making daily decisions to move forward. You have a choice about the actions you take daily will move you toward your goal and this includes taking a step outside your comfort zone to get unstuck.

I also I don’t want you to get me wrong, I think you should regularly dream and dream BIG. Yet in order to make your dreams a reality you must act.

How do your goals (resolutions) align to your mission, vision and values? Are you set to make your resolutions stick?
