The Routine – Declutter one area at a time

September 25, 2021 by Michaeline

I mentioned earlier this month that I like routines and I find that they ground me and help me make progress as well as keep things in order.

As part of this month’s maintenance routine, I am setting up my entry way for cooler weather which normally brings more stuff to that space.

How does your entry way look? Is it cluttered or inviting? How would you like it to look?

Take a minute now to envision your entry and then create a plan and make it happen.

Curating Your Possessions

September 18, 2021 by Michaeline

My current possessions are curated to support my vision is one of my mission statements. As part of my mission focus for this month I am focusing on routines and that includes my environment and a harmonious life.

The idea of curating your possessions is so much more positive than the thought of letting go or getting rid of. It is a way of shifting our thinking into the possible.

What if you curated your possessions? What would your life look like?

Decluttering Your Fitness Routine

June 19, 2021 by Michaeline

In my journey this month to focus on health and fitness, I was looking for opportunities to ensure that the routines I established now will stick in the future.

Just like many people, I do well for a period of time after committing to health habits such as exercise, but then life gets in my way and one of the first things to go is my exercise routine.

Here are some techniques that I am using to make exercise a habit that pulls on me:

  • Schedule it.
  • Set a reminder.
  • Lay out your gear.
  • Pick a pleasurable activity.
  • Head outdoors.
  • Start small.
  • Have a backup plan (rainy day then dancing it is).
  • Set up a reward system (new shoes are in my future).

So far so good. I can say that in using a combination of these techniques this month I am feeling optimistic that I can continue with my exercise routine well into the future.

What about you?

Clutter Busting: A Constant Process

April 4, 2015 by Michaeline

Many people think of clutter busting as a something that is completed once and is done. Clutter busting is a constant process.

Just like losing weight, many people fail at controlling their clutter because they think of it as a destination and not a journey.

If you look at clutter busting as a process of daily routines, weekly, monthly and yearly maintenance and projects, you will be able to have better handle on your clutter because if you just pay attention to your stuff once in a while it can pile up quickly.

So look at your calendar today and schedule your next clutter busting project to start this week, add one clutter routine to today’s list and schedule one maintenance task this month. For example, I plan to organize my scrapbooking supplies as my project this week, today is laundry day (which means wash, fold and put away) and this month cleaning the hall closet (switching seasonal items) has been added to my calendar as my twice annual maintenance.

I would love to hear what you’ve added.

Clutter Busting: Habits

February 14, 2015 by Michaeline

Have you been successful decluttering in the past, like me, only to find your clutter mountains reappearing?

You can conquer your clutter, but it will keep reoccurring unless you change your clutter habits. New habits or routines will let you maintain organization.

If you do not develop habits on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis your things will reappear. What habit can you start today?
